Building for future generations to come!

The Batavia Park District is placing a $27,140,000 bond referendum on the March 17, 2020 ballot to acquire the land, build, and equip an indoor recreational center. We want to provide you with the facts and information you need to make an informed decision for your household this March.

The Batavia Activity & Recreation Center (BARC)

The proposed facility (the BARC) has been designed to be the heart of the community, embodying the spirit of recreation-a place for multi-generations to come together and connect with one another. Residents have expressed a need for indoor aquatics and expanded recreational opportunities for life-long learning. Multi-purpose and wellness/group fitness rooms are flexible to accommodate many types of programs, making the most efficient use of the space. An indoor turf and track area will help further our mission to encourage a healthier lifestyle and enrich the lives of residents. The BARC is designed to be inclusive as well as financially and environmentally sustainable. The 65,100 square-foot facility would include the following amenities:

  • Eight-lane indoor pool (including a new child care service/birthday party room)
  • Multi-plex area to include Indoor Turf & MAC Gymnasium (multi-activity courts)
  • Indoor Walking/Running Track
  • Wellness area with group fitness space & cardio equipment
  • Warming Kitchen to accommodate tournaments & renters
  • Multi-purpose rooms (for programs & rentals)
  • Common space with family and cafe seating

Site Location

The location of the facility resides in the Fox Valley Business Park, located off Route 25 (River Street) at the corner of Belleview Lane and Oswalt Avenue in Batavia. The Illinois Prairie Path runs adjacent to the site location that will make for easy connectivity to the Fox River Trail in the future. The site location wasn't announced earlier due to non-disclosure agreements with multiple landowners related to land acquisition negotiations.

Tax Impact

If passed, a $300,000 market value home would approximately see a $178 annual increase for a period of 20 years, which breaks down to roughly $15 a month, or $3.42 per week. Available online appraisal services (eg. Zillow) are a great resource to determine what the market value of your home.
