Kindergarten Enrichment Program Logo

The Batavia Park District has been working in conjunction with the Batavia Public School District 101 (BPS101) on making the Kindergarten Enrichment Program accessible to families during Crimson and Gold days. The Bulldog Crimson/Gold Camp is also offered for offsite learning days. Click here for more information.

Our Enrichment Program weaves academic concepts such as literacy, science, mathematics, and reasoning into recreational, artistic and musical activities. Our goal is for children to develop essential skills that build the foundation for lifelong learning within positive social, emotional, and recreational experiences.

Our enrichment students will experience very little homework, minimal exams, and no grading. By offering a variety of hands-on, interactive environments, we develop the foundation for lifelong learning with positive social, emotional, and recreational experiences. The Kindergarten Enrichment Program will facilitate learning using children's natural curiosity, imagination, and thinking skills.

This program will run in alignment with the Batavia School District's school calendar and classroom hours of 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. This program will participate in the Character Counts program.

  • Location: All Batavia Public Elementary Schools
  • Facility Usage Fee: $50
  • Tuition: $3,000. A monthly payment plan of $300 for 10 months can be arranged.
In an effort to help the School District's transportation department meet critical deadlines for routing, the deadline to register for Kindergarten Enrichment is June 1.

Thank you to the Batavia Parks Foundation for their generous support of this program!

Enrichment Program - Frequently Asked Questions

Who is offering and running the Enrichment Program?

The Enrichment Program is offered by the Batavia Park District. We will staff the teacher, provide most supplies, and assist parents with registration. The Batavia Park District is the main contact for any questions or concerns at any time during the program. The Batavia Park District is contracted by and working closely with the Batavia Public Schools for this program.

Where will the program be held?

This Enrichment Program will run inside each of the elementary schools, with its own classroom. It is our goal to keep your child inside their home school for the full day.

What is the difference between childcare and Enrichment? I want to be sure this isn't glorified daycare.

We could not agree more! We want to be certain all students and parents know that Kindergarten Enrichment is not childcare. This program has been specially designed with the goal of assisting the academic experience of a kindergartner. The certified teacher's purpose is to deliver an organized system that enriches educational advancement. This program is appropriate for children who are ready to move into a full day of engagement in literacy, math, social skills and other various enriching experiences which will help him/her to be successful in school and in life. This program is only appropriate for children who are ready to spend a full school day in a classroom setting.

What does the curriculum look like?

Phonemic awareness, fluency, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and writing will be taught through the use of interdisciplinary units, leveled readers (Reading A-Z), video books (Raz-Kids), Words Their Way, and the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention.

Saxon Math Curriculum will be used to explore number sense, counting, classifying objects, shapes, concepts of addition and subtraction, time, and money.

Thematic units such as Body and Senses, Health and Nutrition, Insects and Spiders, Trees, and Weather are taught to explore physical and life sciences supported by a Delta Science Curriculum.

The Enrichment Program will be using the Character Counts program to teach the six pillars of character. If you'd like to familiarize your child with Character Counts prior to the school year, feel free to visit

Art, Music, and Recreation will be a focus to support motor skills through both fine and gross motor activities.

The teachers will follow the Illinois Early Learning Standards for Kindergarten. There will be no grades and very little testing or homework.

What is the cost?

There is a facility usage fee of $50. Program tuition costs $3,000. You can choose to pay the full amount at once or $300 monthly, due on the 15th of each month starting in August and running through May.

How does the tuition and cancellation work for the Enrichment Program?

The Enrichment Program has a tuition rate of $3,000 a year. This is the cost the Park District incurs to commit to educate each student in their classroom. This tuition can be paid in full or may be financed with a monthly installation payment of $300 a month for ten months. If installation payments are chosen, the payments will begin on August 15 and continue until the 15th of May. There are no refunds for this program after the 15th of August, unless a family is relocating to another school district or has been moved by the Batavia School District into a program that conflicts with their ability to attend the Enrichment Program for the full year. In the event that this happens, a reasonable accommodation will be sought after to remedy the amount of tuition owed, however it is the enrollee's responsibility to provide proof of either situation or contact the program administrator to work out a financial agreement and withdrawal from the program. If paying monthly, the tuition will still be due on the 1st of each month if you personally elect to leave the Enrichment Program.

How are the payments made for this program?

Payments can be made by credit card, debit card, cash, or check. They can be auto debited, mailed or made in person at the Batavia Civic Center.

How do I register?

Registration begins the day of Kindergarten Preview. You may register at the Civic Center (327 W. Wilson St.) anytime during our open hours. We do encourage early registration as we do fill up very quickly. In an effort to help the School District's transportation department meet critical deadlines for routing, the deadline to register for Kindergarten Enrichment is June 1.

When will I learn who my child's teacher is going to be?

It is our goal to let you know by August 1. You will not know the section, however, until the school district releases that information.

When will my child find out what section of enrichment he or she is in?

Your child will attend the opposite section of the day from the kindergarten class they are assigned from the School District. For example if the School District assigns AM kindergarten; your child will be dismissed from AM kindergarten to eat lunch in the cafeteria and then be escorted to the enrichment program or vice versa.

What about lunch? What should my child bring for lunch?

Lunch options will be provided through the school district or can be brought to school. Information on your school's lunch options is available at

What about transportation? What will my child do for transportation to or from the program?

Your child may be picked up or bused. If your child qualifies for transportation through the school district, they can ride the bus as they would for a full day of school. Please watch the school district routes for bus routes, pick up, and drop off times.

Will my child need anything special for this program?

We will send a small supply list with items that will be needed as the school year nears. We look most forward to a big smile and a warm welcome of each other for the first experiences of elementary school.

Is there paperwork and where and when will I get it?

To register for the program, we do have minimal paperwork that will need to be completed. Teachers will also send information to the students, and we will keep you informed of your Meet & Greet night at your elementary school as the date approaches.

What if I have two children, is there a discount?

This program runs in line with the school district. It stands alone with each student individually. There is not a discount for multiple children.

I hear there is a before and after school program with the Park District. Is this program available to my Kindergartner?

Yes, the Batavia Park District offers a before and after school program called Kids' Club. It is available to all elementary students. It is available to students that attend Hoover Wood, J.B. Nelson, Louise White, HC Storm, and Grace McWayne.

Whom can I contact if I have questions?

You may contact Lori McDonald, Enrichment Administrator, by phone at 630-406-5282 ext. 2061 or by e-mail at

We know our staff by "Miss/Ms./Mrs. or Mister" followed by their last name. As program participants and guardians of participants, please respect the staff, each other, the school facilities and the materials provided. If/when items are broken or taken the parents of the child involved in inappropriate action will be responsible for replacing them. We cannot be held responsible for any items that are missing from backpacks, but if the items are found to be involved with an inappropriate situation we will find a fair and responsible solution for those involved.

In order to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for participation in recreation programs, participants we ask our participants to adhere to fair, and safe, conduct guidelines. These guidelines apply to the respect and safety of participants, the public, employees, and volunteers of the Batavia Park District.

A safe environment is where participants, staff, volunteers and the public are free from physical and verbal harm. It is anticipated that some participants may require assistance to participate in the recreation program. This assistance may include accommodations, which will assist participants with unusual behaviors in order to maintain a safe environment for all.

Misconduct may include but is not limited to:

  • Hitting, kicking, stealing, lying, cheating or throwing objects.
  • Talking back, raising voice or defying staff requests.

In accordance, participants may display misconduct by doing the following:

  • Mistreatment or harassment of any staff member by any participant or participant's guardian.

"Consider that 40% of a child's time is open to choices - positive or negative." -Emily Bowman

We make every attempt to curtail unwanted behavior through positive reinforcement. Please review the "pillars of character" with your child. Discuss with your child the responsibilities and/or leadership roles which apply to him/her. We find that these methods help children stay focused on developing constructive and respectable communication and social skills.

In the event we encounter a situation that warrants behavioral modification, our program has a disciplinary procedure. Any teacher may modify as deemed necessary, and we use the following procedure as a guideline:

Step 1.
A verbal flag (and a visual reminder) indicating that inappropriate behavior is seen. If necessary, a "time out" is requested. Up to 3 flags/reminders in a day may be given if deemed reasonable before Step 2 is implemented.

Step 2.
The student is separated from the activity or situation for a logical time period. The student may be requested to write a letter referencing Character Counts using his/her own words and ideas on how to prevent this type of situation in the future. The letter may be directed to the guardian or any other classmate, school or district staff involved. A phone call may also be made to the participant's guardian.

Step 3.
The guardian is requested to pick up the student without delay, wherever his/her class is located. The student is requested not to return to class for a specific period of time or is released from participation indefinitely. No refund is granted for participants that are requested to be picked up early or suspended for any amount of time from program.
