What is National Park & Recreation Month?

National Park & Recreation Month is a national initiative started by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to promote the building of strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through parks and recreational activities. The initiative is also used to promote the importance of parks and recreation in health, wellness, conservation and social equity. This year, the NRPA's message is to highlight how parks and recreation develop a sense of belonging in communities. Bruce is on the loose! Help us find the wayward spruce!

Starting June 28th, follow the clues left in six of Batavia's parks to find Bruce and spell out his favorite word!

The first two clues will be posted at the Civic Center, Eastside Community Center, and on social media on June 28th.

Two clues will be posted each week and if both clues are solved and both letters are found from each week, stop by the Civic Center and Eastside Community Center to claim a special sticker. Different stickers will be available each week, so be sure to collect them all!

Unplug Illinois is a campaign created by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association that encourages people to unplug from their electronic devices and plug into play, creativity, friendship, adventure and family.

This year, Unplug Illinois Day is Saturday, July 13th. We're encouraging all of Batavia to step away from their screens, and get outside! We'll be highlighting our favorite parks to go to and we hope to see you at Windmill City Fest!

To further the awareness of Unplug Illinois Day, use the hashtag #bataviaunplugged and post a picture of you, your family, or friends doing a favorite outdoor activity around Batavia. Post a picture with the hashtag by noon on Thursday, July 18th for a chance to be entered into a drawing to win an amazing prize!
