Batavia Depot Museum Invites Batavia Residents to Bring Family Pictures to Batavia Memories Preservation Project

Tue April 24, 2018

Batavia, IL- On Saturday, April. 28, all Batavians are invited to the Batavia Memories Preservation Project. People who live, work or go to school in Batavia are encouraged to bring their photos and the stories behind them to the Batavia Civic Center.  Your photos will be scanned to be included in Batavia Historical Society’s extensive archive of Batavia history housed at the Batavia Depot Museum.

This event, along with the Walking Tour of East Side Homes at 2pm, will wrap up Preservation Week 2018 - a week-long series of events organized by Batavia Depot Museum.

“At the event the community is encouraged to share up to three photos representing your life or your family’s lives in Batavia, whether very recently or long ago.  The best images are ones that have a story to them.” stated Jennifer Putzier, event organizer and director of Depot Museum.  “We will scan your photos on the spot, so you don’t have to part with your originals.  Digital photos can be uploaded from your digital storage drives as well.  We will take a keepsake photo of participants and their photos, and they will have the opportunity to tell their story on video recorded by BATV.”  All collected information will become part of the archives of the Batavia Historical Society at Batavia Depot Museum.

“Everything is optional,” says Ms. Putzier. “You can come and just watch, or swap stories with fellow Batavians.”

“The history of Batavia is much than the stories of famous people.  It is the collective story of its citizenry – whether they have lived in Batavia all their life or have just moved into town.  Come help us tell the history of Batavia!  All contributions to this project are greatly valued, and we hope residents will take this opportunity to add the images and stories of their family to our local history.” states Putzier.

The Batavia Memories Preservation Project takes place on Saturday, April 28 from 10am-1pm at the Batavia Civic Center at 327 W. Wilson in Batavia is free and open to the public.  Please fill out the registration form here. to minimize waiting times
