Parks Foundation looks to fill open board position

Sun September 8, 2013

The Batavia Parks Foundation has an immediate opening on its board of directors. The Foundation is a local non-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving and expanding Batavia’s parks and green spaces. Established in 2004 by business and civic leaders, the Foundation bridges the gap between public resources and the needs of the Batavia parks system.

A Foundation Board Director is one of seven individuals who volunteer their time to make a difference on issues related to parks and open spaces in Batavia. The open seat will serve a 3-year term. Board members provide direction, motivation and guidance. They may also be called upon to initiate and carry out fund-raising campaigns. The Board is looking for an individual with ideas, enthusiasm and a commitment to the community. Foundation Board Directors attend monthly board meetings and participate in special advisory committees on an as-needed basis.

Since its inception, the Parks Foundation has completed several projects within the community, including bringing the SpaceNet back to Engstrom Park, raising funds to build the Peg Bond Center Performing Arts Pavilion and most recently funding the development of the West Main Disc Golf Course. The Foundation also helps fund the Batavia Park District’s Leisureship Program, which provides individuals in need of financial assistance the funding to participate in Batavia Park District programs.

Citizens interested in applying for a seat on the Batavia Parks Foundation Board must submit a letter of interest including their prior community involvement. A personal resume may also be included but is not required. Letters of interest should be sent to the Batavia Parks Foundation, c/o Kari Miller, 327 W. Wilson, Batavia, Illinois 60510.
