WellBatavia Festival to offer FREE fitness all day!

Thu April 26, 2018

Batavia, IL -Spirit of a community festival, energy of our dedicated and passionate instructors, fresh summer air! Enough to invigorate any new wellness regimen!

The 2018 WellBatavia Festival is all about bringing together the area’s greatest resources in healthy living, and physical fitness is a key piece of the wellness puzzle.  On June 2nd, the Fitness Stage will be packed with FREE classes for anyone to try – no cost, no pressure, just a new exercise experience out on Batavia’s beautiful River Street!

Festival Chair, Sarah Greenhagen, says “We have developed the Fitness Stage to include innovative and fun classes offered right here in Batavia. Everything is open to beginners to try, yet even the most avid exercise enthusiast is bound to find something new!”

The Festival kicks off with a 5k Race to the Market, with Yoga for Runners taking place from 8:15am - 8:45am, provided by Power Moves Yoga.  While you don’t need to participate in the race to attend, this yoga sequence is designed for athletes to recover overworked parts of their body, cross-train supportive muscle groups in their core, and improve range of motion in their spine  -  a perfect way to finish a morning run!

From 9:15am - 10:00am, Kim Coverly will present an all ages POUND.  Using lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout.

At 10:00am, all are invited to Taste of Tai Chi with Herman Kussro of the Batavia Park District. Tai Chi is "Meditation in Motion". Discover how the flowing and graceful movement of Tai Chi can reduce stress and anxiety, improve balance and body control, increase your feeling of peace and well-being, and promote health and healing.

Get jumping at 10:45am with a Mini-Trampoline class for all ages!

From 11:30am – 12:15pm, take a walk around the Festival and Farmers Market with the Batavia Park District’s Kathy Freedlund and her Nordic Walking poles!  This class is best for those 16 years and up.   Kathy is a beloved 30-year fitness instructor and we are fortunate to borrow her expertise (and walking poles!) for this class.  Come learn how to take make walking a total body work out!

Finally, dance your day away with the Batavia Park District from 12:15pm-1pm during Zumba.

The WellBatavia Festival takes place from 8am – 1pm on June 2nd on River Street, just north of the Farmers Market.  The Fitness Stage will be at the northern tip of the expo area, near Spring Street. “Participants are welcome and encouraged to sign up for more than one class – come work out with us all day!”

Class registration is recommended but not required.  Sign up at wellbatavia.com. Email sarah@catalystpts.com with questions on the Festival.
