2020 Summer Update - In-Person Programs

Batavia, IL - The Batavia Park District continues to work diligently to ensure the health and safety of all participants and staff as we return to our facilities and programs. While Illinois is in Phase 3, please be informed on program and facility modifications.

reopening batavia park district facilities

The front office at the Civic Center is scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, June 22. Registration can take place in-person from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday at the Civic Center. The Eastside Community Center will be temporarily closed this summer due to construction. Online registration is always available - click here. Prior to June 22, residents can contact a Customer Service Advisor by calling 630-879-5235 and leave a message.

Upon returning to Batavia Park District facilities, participants can expect:

  • Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the facilities.
  • Social distancing signage and floor markings are posted.
  • Protective shield is installed at the front registration desk.
  • Cashless transactions are encouraged.
  • Enhancing cleaning procedures are taking place before, during, and after programs.
  • Staff is informed on good hygiene practices, wearing face masks when necessary, and practicing social distancing.
  • Class sizes will be reduced, and virtual classes will continue to be offered.
  • Programs are offered outdoors when possible.
summer camp update

Following the Restore Illinois guidelines, traditional day camps this summer are not possible. Therefore, Kamp Kaleidoscope will be reimagined to Local Explorers.

  • Local Explorers will focus on outdoor activities where social distancing can be followed.
  • Camp group sizes will be small, so keep in mind registration will be limited.
  • Campers will visit local parks but will avoid field trips with large gatherings.
  • Increased sanitation practices will be implemented, and face coverings will be required when social distancing cannot be practiced. Please bring your own face covering.
  • Tentative start date is Monday, July 6. Camp runs Monday – Friday from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, with optional extended hours from 3:30-5:30 pm at Peg Bond Center.
  • From June 8 – July 3, an At-Home Adventure kit can be purchased to keep the kids engaged while camp is not in session. You can sign-up here.

outdoor & zoom fitness classes

Many fitness participants have participated in our free, virtual fitness classes over the past few weeks. As we enter Phase 3, we are excited to offer outdoor fitness classes, along with paid virtual options.

  • Outdoor and paid, virtual fitness classes will begin the week of June 15
  • Registration for outdoor classes is limited, and social distancing will need to be adhered to.
  • Face masks are not required, as long as social distancing can be practiced.
  • Participants will bring their own equipment, water bottle, towel, sunscreen, and hand sanitizer.

kayak rentals

New in 2020, kayak rentals are offered at the Batavia Riverwalk, near Peg Bond Center. Kayak rentals replace the paddleboat rentals that were offered in years prior. Participants must be 16 years of age or older with a state issued ID to operate the kayaks.

  • Kayak rentals will open Saturday, June 20.
  • Kayak rental hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 12:00-2:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 1:00-6:00 pm
  • Cost is $10 for one person kayak for 30 minutes (credit card only)
  • Each kayak will be sanitized after each use.
Batavia depot museum

The Batavia Depot Museum will reopen Monday, June 22 with limited visitor capacity, face mask requirements, and social distancing guidelines. The Museum will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00-4:00 pm. No weekend hours will be available at this time.

Batavia, IL- During COVID-19, the Batavia Park District staff are working hard to ensure ‘Your fun is our business!’ during these difficult times. The safety and health of staff and patrons is of the utmost importance and a determining factor for the future of many events. The Park District is committed to offering safe, positive experiences, whether virtual or in-person, in the coming weeks and months to support Batavians’ mental and physical health.

With current restrictions on mass gatherings and the announcement of Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan, the Park District is announcing the cancellation of the following events:

  • The 2020 River Rhapsody Concert Series on Wednesday evenings will not take place this year.
  • Windmill City Festival is canceled this summer.

Park District staff continue to work on plans to modify other favorite summer events and programs to comply with social distancing guidelines. Some highlights include:

  • Summer Outdoor Movies will move to a drive-in experience to allow for social distancing.
  • Batavia Senior Citizens Club meetings will meet virtually on the third Wednesday of each month.
  • The Batavia Virtual Recreation Center, found at bataviaparks.org, continues to offer free virtual programming, including Kids’ Corner activities, Fitness and Yoga class, and Active Adult socializing programming.
  • Various Youth Variety programs that were originally in-person are moving to an online, interactive format.
  • All Star Sports classes are offered online, in the comfort of your own home or backyard.

While this summer is going to be different, the Batavia Park District is here for your recreation needs. We will continue to work hard to keep the parks and trails clean, modify summer events and programming where possible, and provide memorable experiences for your family this summer!
