Batavia, IL- Batavia Park District officials announce the vacancy of an open seat on the park board. The open board position is the result of a resignation from Thomas Dorsey who stepped down on July 31 due to moving outside of the district's boundaries. Dorsey was elected in 2017 to a six-year term. The timing of the resignation means that the two year unexpired term will be up for election at the consolidated election in April, 2021. The park board plans to appoint someone to fulfill the obligations until the winner of that election in April, 2021 is seated.
Interested candidates must be registered voters and residents of the Batavia Park District for at least one year prior to the last election. The park board is composed of five non-paid commissioners. Individuals interested in applying for the open seat must submit a letter of interest along with a resume of qualifications addressed to: Patrick Callahan, President, c/o Allison Niemela, Executive Director, 327 W. Wilson Street, Batavia, IL 60510. Interested candidates must apply by 5:00 p.m. on September 11. The park board plans to have an initial screening of candidates and then will proceed to conduct personal interviews shortly thereafter. The board would like to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.
The park board meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson Street, at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. For more information contact Allison Niemela at 630-879-5235.
