Virtual Recreation Opportunities

Tue May 19, 2020

Batavia, IL- As more people stay at home due to COVID-19, Batavia Park District staff recognizes the importance, now more than ever, of providing recreation outlets to the community. Although Park District facilities and playgrounds are closed, recreation does not have to stop!

The Batavia Virtual Recreation Center has two purposes, with many goals in mind - to provide an opportunity to keep minds and bodies healthy, provide learning opportunities, socialize with friends, be creative, and have fun. Free, virtual classes are offered in a variety of different areas, including fitness, yoga, arts and crafts, e-sports, active adult socializing, and more. The site is updated several times a week with new class offerings.

“Providing classes virtually has been so rewarding,” says Kathy Freedlund, Fitness Director. “I have missed helping other people exercise so much! This is a way that provides our patrons the ability to keep moving, keeping our bodies healthy and spirits lifted!”

The second portion of the Batavia Virtual Recreation Center is a resource center, full of links and recommendations to at-home activities, crafts, and information that staff has hand-selected. Activities are broken down by age groups and interest type, making it easy to find something for everyone.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, Park District staff are creatively thinking about the future of programs and events. In the coming days and weeks, additional free and paid virtual programs will be shared with the community. Find current class offerings at bataviaparks.org/batavia-virtual-recreation-center.
