Help paint the Peace out Batavia mural on our Community Painting Days.
Make your mark on Batavia's history and help paint a section of the Peace Out Batavia mural, which will be installed on the Batavia Peace Pedestrian Ramp this fall. This paint-by-number project is for ages 15 and older.

This morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication were held for our newly renamed Peace Plaza on the west side of the Peace Bridge, adjacent to Batavia City Hall.
Batavia Rotary Club President Mark Lucas, Park District Executive Director Allison Niemela, Park District Board Chair John Tilmon, and Batavia Parks Foundation Board President Katie O'Brien spoke on the importance of incorporating "peace" into the park's name. Tilmon and Niemela unveiled a temporary Peace Plaza sign to mark the name change.
Formerly named South Riverwalk Plaza, the park was renamed to recognize its connection to the Peace Bridge, Peace Pole and Peace Rock Garden.

It was a beautiful day for the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Batavia Peace Pedestrian Ramp, which connects the east side of the Peace Bridge to the Fox River Trail. The ramp, a collaborative project between the Batavia Park District and the City of Batavia, will also feature a new Peace Out Batavia mural, scheduled to be installed this fall.
Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke, Batavia City Administrator Laura Newman, V3 Vice President of Municipal Services Kurt Corrigan, Batavia Park Board President John Tilmon, and Batavia Park District Executive Director Allison Niemela all gave remarks.
Schielke and Newman discussed the history of the Peace Bridge area and the importance of this new piece of infrastructure. Corrigan spoke about the ramp's importance in improving accessibility and strengthening connections throughout the community. Tilmon and Niemela expressed their appreciation for the city's partnership on the project, as well as the collaboration and creativity that brought the mural to life. Niemela highlighted the importance of these projects in bringing the community together.
