Help paint the Peace out Batavia mural on our Community Painting Days.
Make your mark on Batavia's history and help paint a section of the Peace Out Batavia mural, which will be installed on the Batavia Peace Pedestrian Ramp this fall. This paint-by-number project is for ages 15 and older.
Stop by the Callahan Community Center, 150 Houston St., during the dates and times listed below. See us at the Batavia Farmers' Market on July 25 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Batavia Park District mourns the loss of well-respected employee, Gail Gaboda. Gail began working for Batavia Park District as the Creative Communications Specialist in 2022. Gail passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, July 18.
Executive Director Allison Niemela shared a few memorable sentiments about Gail:
"Gail reminded us that happiness is often found in the little things like lilacs, a peanut butter cup or a favorite quote from the TV show Parks and Recreation. Those simple things now carry an even more special meaning for all of us.
She was our grammar queen, our Fun Guide editor-in-chief, and someone who took tremendous pride in getting the little things right. Behind every publication was Gail's dedication, talent, and strong commitment to excellence.
Gail had a gift for making words better, but more importantly, she made people feel better. She quietly poured her heart into everything she created, and our community is richer because of her.
Gail wasn't someone who sought the spotlight. She was someone who made everyone else's work shine. Her legacy will live on in the stories she helped tell, the friendships she built, and the countless lives she quietly touched.
Gail's story doesn't end here. It lives on in the people she loved, the friendships she nurtured, the work she took such pride in, and every one of us who had the privilege of knowing her. We will miss her deeply, remember her often, and be forever grateful that our paths crossed."

New Adult Trip: Chicago Botanic Garden
Come with us to discover 385 acres of natural beauty at the famed garden in Glencoe. See 27 display gardens, four natural habitats, nine islands, and six miles of shoreline.

One of Batavia's favorite parks, Engstrom Family Park has plenty of ways to play and explore, including a fun playground, picnic shelter, sports fields, and a walking path. It's a fun place for kids to climb on the playground, kick a ball around or shoot hoops. Families will enjoy the picnic area and walking path.

During National Parks and Recreation Month, we are highlighting some of the Park District's people and places. Today, we feature Lori McDonald, Assistant Director of Community Recreation, who oversees and mentors full-time recreation staff, coordinates events, such as the Windmill City Festival, and serves as an integral part of the district.
Lori talks about her role at the district and her favorite district facility. She started her career as an intern and has worked here for over 30 years. Stay tuned for more interviews and insights from staff.
