Capital Development Plan
The Capital Development Plan (CDP) is how Batavia Park District thoughtfully manages and funds long-term development and revitalization projects.
Planning Today for the Community Spaces of Tomorrow
The Capital Development Plan (CDP) is how Batavia Park District thoughtfully manages and funds long-term development and revitalization projects. Since its beginning in 2001, this strategic plan has guided major improvements across our parks, helping bring community-driven priorities to life. The first-generation plan completed 16 of 18 priority projects through a $4.1 million bond, earning its “Growing with Batavia… One Park at a Time” title and setting the stage for the second-generation plan. The CDP ensures our parks, community centers, paths, and facilities evolve with the needs of Batavia—enhancing accessibility, modernizing infrastructure, and enriching recreational spaces for everyone.

Global Impact: Where Our Old Playgrounds End Up
Thanks to partnerships with Kids Around the World, several retired Batavia playgrounds found new life in communities around the globe:
- Saratoga Park (parts) → Lebanon & Jamaica
- Millview Park → Botswana
- Engstrom Family Park (parts) → Lebanon & Jamaica
- Hartfield Park → Ecuador
- Fidler Farm → Philippines
- Prairie Path Park (parts) → Fiji & Nepal
These relocations align with the mission of Kids Around the World to “harvest locally, build globally,” using refurbished playgrounds to plant seeds of joy, creativity, and hope in communities where children need it most.
Why this matters
- Sustainable Reuse: Rather than ending up in landfills, playground components are given a second life—benefiting both local ecology and global communities.
- Global Connection: Through play, children across continents share experiences—bridging cultures and building resilience.
- Community Pride: Local families can feel proud knowing some of our parks continue to bring happiness around the world.
Park & Playground Replacement Schedule
The Playground Replacement Program ensures that, on average, Batavia receives two brand-new playgrounds annually. But what becomes of the retired ones? That’s where the inspiring work of Kids Around the World comes in. This Rockford-based nonprofit removes, refurbishes, and relocates playgrounds to underserved communities around the globe.
