Lightening Detection
At Batavia Park District, safety and reliable operations come first even when the weather doesn’t cooperate. That’s why we rely on Perry Weather for real-time monitoring and alerting at our facilities. With on-site weather sensors, automated alerts, and expert support, we know exactly when to pause activities or resume them no guesswork, no delay

Weather Safety Information
Safety during changing weather conditions is supported by a professional, real-time monitoring system powered by Perry Weather. This system provides accurate, location-specific information to help guide decisions during lightning, severe storms, extreme heat, and poor air quality.
With on-site sensors and automated alerts, clear instructions are communicated so visitors, participants, and guests know when activities must pause and when it is safe to return.
How the Weather System Works
Perry Weather provides:
- Real-time weather data specific to the facility’s exact location
- Lightning detection and automated countdown timers
- Heat index and air quality monitoring
- Instant alerts sent to staff and connected warning devices
- “All clear” notifications when conditions improve
All guidance is based on reliable, on-site information rather than distant or generalized forecasts.
What to Expect During Poor Weather
Visual and/or audible signals may activate when conditions require attention:
🔴 Weather Warning – Seek Shelter
When severe weather is detected:
- Outdoor activities pause immediately
- Staff direct guests to indoor or sheltered areas
- Warning lights or sounds may activate, depending on the facility
🟡 Weather Hold – Please Wait
During a weather hold:
- Activities remain paused
- A countdown timer automatically tracks the required safety window
- The hold continues until conditions have remained safe for the designated duration
🟢 All Clear – Activities May Resume
When conditions improve:
- A clear notification indicates that activities may restart
Why This System Is Used
The professional weather monitoring system ensures:
- Increased safety for guests and participants
- Consistent and timely decision-making
- Reduced confusion during rapidly changing conditions
- Confidence that all weather-related actions are based on accurate, real-time data
Do all Batavia Park District Parks use this system?
Not all of the parks in the district currently use the electronic system. Anytime you see lightening please seek shelter.
Thank You for Your Cooperation
Delays or pauses in activity may occur during poor weather. These procedures are in place to protect all visitors, and staff members are available to answer any questions regarding alerts or current conditions.
