Things are heating up this summer with the Chili Appreciation Society International's Batavia Chili Cook-Off. Muy caliente!
To compete in the CASI state competition, the entry fee is $25. Competitors may sign up between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the day of the event, or email Brittany Meyer at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up in advance. CASI chilis will be turned in at 1:00 pm, with preliminary and final CASI judging set for 1:15 pm and 2:00 pm, respectively.
A traditional community competition also will be hosted! Both the turn-in time and judging for the traditional competition are set for 2:00 pm.
Batavian Jay Cherry, an acoustic guitarist, plans to perform classic rock and pop hits from the 1960s through the 1990s from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Concessions, courtesy of Duke's Dogs Chicago Style Hot Dog Cart, will be available.
Don't want to compete? Come to eat! Tastings begin at 1:30 p.m., while supplies last. The fee is $5 for a spoon. No registration is required to watch or to sample the chili.
*This event is brought to you by the Batavia Park District, Batavia Chamber of Commerce and CASI.
